muscles and your body needs protein to make the repairs. Also, when on a low
calorie diet, you are going to need more protein because there is a higher
chance your body might try to break down muscular tissue for fuel. So an
increase in protein is a must. Another reason is protein has been found to be
30% more thermogenic than carbs or fats. This basically means protein is harder
for your body to digest so it must burn more calories to break down the
protein. This is called the thermic effect of food.
Tip 2: Cut down on the carbs throughout the day. By
consuming carbohydrates when youre not an active person, your body will
basically break them down and turn them into body fat to be used at another
time. If you are very active and have a low percentage of body fat, then
carbohydrates are a must in your diet. But if you are the opposite of this,
then you should really watch your carb intake. Generally, I am against
extremely low carb diets, but research has shown that when there is an absence
of carbohydrates, the body will switch to burning fat as fuel. If you want some
carbs, stick to fruits and oatmeal in the morning and avoid pasta and bread
though out the day, especially at night.
Tip 3: Consume healthy fatty acids. Fat is not bad for us.
We need fat in our diet. Our ancestors relied on fat because of its high
calorie content. If we do not get enough fat in our diet, a myriad of problems
can arise. The best types of fats to consume are from eggs, fish, nuts, seeds,
and certain oils like olive oil. Fish oil especially has been found to be
extremely beneficial to human health. It has been linked to a decrease in
metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, and has been shown to decrease body
fat.
